what it is

Selection is a test of attributes, not fitness.

Special selection courses bring subjects to their physical capacity and psychological boundaries. Selection is not a reflection of the job requirements but a selection for the attributes of the profession — and no matter your physical capacity, the proctors will push you past it. Before you allow another to test your boundaries, it’s best to understand your own.

ATTN: if you are preparing for a specific selection, make sure you understand its requirements. This is NOT a generic program and cannot predictably prepare you for selections with varying requisites.

how it protects you

Enhancing your “luck.”

This program is designed to enhance your luck by removing the risks associated with preparation. Preventing overuse injuries is one way, but a great deal of attention goes into self-care — joint prep, tissue maintenance, and body awareness — to protect against the abrasions, infections, and immune crashes that are common in these environments.

The most important aspect is rarely addressed elsewhere: the mental framework and state maintenance. Very few quit because of physical limitations — most use expectation and discomfort to rationalize their inability to continue.

how it works

Six days a week. Time on feet.

This is an 8–12 week program (with an additional 4 weeks if necessary), assuming you already have the requisite physicality to start. It entails six days of training and one rest day, with important themes threaded throughout — this is not just about doing the work but thinking about the work.

The core focus is time on feet — not just running, but walking and standing. Beyond the training, we ask you to adjust daily habits: abstaining from sitting, and including an above-average amount of mobility to tolerate the volume. Do not take this program lightly.

Michael Blevins

Coach behind Man of Steel · Justice League · 300 : Rise of an Empire

No one questions the accomplished man. An accomplished man gets there by questioning everything. Michael Blevins arrived at coaching by way of a single question asked of his own body — how much better can this get? The answer took him through Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, hundreds of bike races, a decade of endurance sport, and eventually into the work of building the bodies behind the screen. He founded Heavy Meta and The Space Program to put the method in other people's hands.

What six years of it looks like.

I’ve been training with Michael and Erin in some capacity or another since 2020 — through training camps, the Quest for the Hypertrophy, and Endurance.

After years of lifting and martial arts on my own, taking the training methodology seriously has helped me, at nearly 40:

  • Regain control of my body, and fight off injury.
  • Have people ask me, “Hey. Have you been working out? You’re looking jacked.”
  • Have the type of endurance during jiu jitsu rounds to be a serious problem.
  • Change my internal self-talk from entirely negative to supportive and encouraging, in a way that years of therapy couldn’t crack.

It’s also fun. Novel. Engaging. You can’t check out — it forces you to pay attention, but it doesn’t leave you unable to train the next day. You find yourself able to do things. You’ll build your capability without a lot of needless suffering.

To be clear: there will be suffering, but it will be productive. You will learn things about yourself, and have no illusions about what you can and cannot realistically do — which is invaluable.

And if you want to meet people who get it — and are prepared to welcome you with open arms if you’re prepared to trust the process — come meet everyone in person at a camp or event.
